Scouts lead way on environment

SHARE

Twelve Kurri Kurri Scouts have embarked on a rehabilitation project at Log of Knowledge Park.

The Junior Landcare Warriors will restore a raised patch of woodland called ‘The Mound’ and bring it back to its natural vegetation community and associated habitat values.

The Scouts attended their first meeting at the park last week.

Cessnock council’s biosecurity weeds team, Barry Shepherd and Maria Edmonds, as well as Landcare’s Stacy Mail, took them on a walk and talk to educate them about the site and what they could achieve.

Cessnock Bob Pynsent reserved special praise for the Scouts’ efforts.

“It’s great to see young people who are enthusiastic about their local environment and I look forward to following the Warriors as they carry out this project,” he said.

The council’s weeds team are eager to see the group tackle a few of the park’s environmental weeds.

These include Asparagus Fern, Bridal Creeper, Lantana, African Olive, Tecoma, Camphor Laurel, Pittsporum undulatum, and a number of other garden escapees.

Any young person keen to join in can contact Robert Martin via [email protected].
