Are you keen for some school holiday mayhem, music and mirth?
If the answer is “yes”, then head to Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) on Thursday 18 July.
The Listies will Make Some Noise!, with two performances, at 10am and 1pm.
For more than a decade, the award-winning duo has toured the world doing shows for literally gazillions of kidults (that’s kids and their adults).
Now, it’s Cessnock’s turn to experience their frenetic energy.
If you’re the parent of a child aged between four and 14, chances are you’re already familiar with the work of The Listies from their appearances on ABC Kids in The Listies Work For Peanuts and Art Blast.
Their unique blend of sketch comedy, cheeky tunes and anarchic hyperactivity have made them a bona fide hit with the primary school set.
As Dave O’Neil wrote in The Age, “If the Wiggles are The Eagles, then The Listies are the Sex Pistols”.
It’s fair to say the comedy double act, comprised of Richard Higgins and Matthew Kelly, are very serious about being silly.
To date, they’ve written nine award-winning and critically-acclaimed shows, collaborated with most major theatre companies and festivals in Australia, toured three continents, recorded four albums and published two books with Penguin (with four more on the way).
They’ve been the recipients of a Sydney Theatre Award; The HarperCollins Best Designed Children’s Fiction Book; and Best Independent show (Golden Gibbo Award) at Melbourne International Comedy Festival (and are still the only kids act to have been nominated for the Comedy Festival’s ‘Best Show’ award).
Their fans aren’t confined just to children either.
Frank Woodley, one half of Australian comedy royalty Lano and Woodley, said of the duo: “When I saw them, it affected my thinking because I really related to the comedy craft they were exercising… it got me a little bit excited to realise that when you are performing for kids, it’s just as delicate and just as sophisticated.”
