It’s finally the festive season and Santa is on his way.

The Newcastle Business Improvement Association (BIA) is aiming to bring local families to the area for some jolly Christmas activities.

After another year affected by COVID-19, the BIA is keen to put some smiles on the faces of little ones, as well as joy in the souls of those young-at-heart.

Santa and his elves will appear in Council Street, Darby Street, King Street and Hunter Street Mall from Wednesday 1 December until Friday 17 December.

So, what is happening?

Starting this week, Santa will be set up under the trees in Council Street, along with his elves, available for free photos.

He’ll also wander around Hunter Street Mall, Darby Street and King Street.

In his travels, he will pop into businesses to say hello to patrons and give local businesses an opportunity to take a photo with Santa.

He’ll also give away special vouchers from various City businesses.

“We wanted to bring some Christmas cheer to our precinct after what has been a pretty tough year for most,” Newcastle BIA board member Taiyo Namba said.

“The association has collaborated with local small businesses to offer vouchers and other giveaways, which will be handed out by Santa.

“Our goal is to get people shopping and supporting our small businesses in the city, not just for Christmas but every day.

“Bring the kids and spend a day rediscovering the city, visiting Santa and doing some Christmas shopping.

“We can’t wait to see everyone.”
