Newcastle councillors have voted to sell three civic buildings overnight, with the proceeds going towards a multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Newcastle Ocean Baths.
The heritage-listed Fred Ash building, the Clarendon Hotel and Bennett and Wood building, which houses Blue Door Café, are set to exchange for almost $10 million.
Property developer, the Stevens Group, is taking on the Clarendon Hotel and Fred Ash building for $7.485 million, while Blue Door Developments is forking out $2.015 for the Bennett and Wood building.
Last night, City of Newcastle also adopted traffic changes to the Hunter Street Newcastle East End Stage One Streetscape Plan, which now includes works between Perkins Street and Brown Street after the block wasn’t upgraded during the Light Rail project.
