Quality wine, award-winning gin, live music, street art, and a delectable three-course-meal – and all from the saddle of your bike.
That’s what Newy Rides founder Ben Ogden has on the itinerary for Newcastle this May.
Partnering with acclaimed chef Joel Humphreys, Ben will push the pedal on the first of The Ride Along Series, when he hosts a progressive lunch showcasing some of the city’s best food and beverage providers.
The series will include Newcastle’s Earp Distilling Co and Dirt Candy Wine and is aimed at exhibiting some of the hidden treasures the city’s tourism industry has, while riding a bike.
“The Ride Along Series is a series of one-off, bespoke events that allows guests to peel back a layer of various Newcastle identities, getting a behind-the-scenes look at how their mind works by showcasing their wares, interacting with you along the way,” Ben said.
“This is a true ‘Meet-the-Maker’ experience – by bike.”
Newy Rides is a bike tour of Newcastle launched in 2020, incorporating “nooks and crannies in town, to the makers, murals, producers, coffee shops and food stops”.
Combining his extensive knowledge of travel and tourism and two-wheel pedal power, founder Ben Ogden promises visitors the discovery of the best of Newcastle, by bike.
The first of his unique Ride Along events will showcase the cuisine of Joel Humphreys in the format of a progressive lunch, by bike.
Humphreys, a former Rockpool, Bistro Moncur and Bodega 1904 chef, will join the ride to share firsthand his passion for local produce.
The experience starts at a designated meeting spot where everyone is introduced, letting the day unfold with a specially curated 3-course menu including wine pairings riding onwards to each unique stop.
“I’ve invited some great Newy producers along for the ride to really enhance the experience and showcase the best products in the region,” Ben said.
“Local winemaker, Daniel Payne from Dirt Candy Wines will be pouring wine at each stop as well as Cameron Burns from Earp Distilling Co will be creating a one-off for the event.”
The event will run, or rather, ride on Saturday 1st and 8th May 2021. Seats are limited.
