Rosie Batty will be in the Hunter next month, featuring as guest speaker at Harbouring Hope, a Domestic Violence Prevention Month luncheon at the Belmont 16s.
The renowned family anti-violence campaigner will share her profound journey of hope and finding peace after the tragic loss of her 11-year-old son, Luke, who was murdered very publicly by his father at his cricket practice in Melbourne in 2014.
Ten years on from the tragedy, Rosie’s resilience and dedication to the cause of raising awareness have made her a beacon of strength and inspiration.
She was awarded Australian of the Year in 2015 for her efforts.
Rosie will share insights into her own healing, as well as other inspirations she has laid out in her book released earlier this week entitled ‘Hope’.
She will be joined by Lake Macquarie Local Steph De Sousa, a talented MasterChef Alumni.
Steph’s passion and colourful flair promise to add a unique and meaningful dimension to the event.
The Harbouring Hope Lunch, on Friday 10 May, is proudly hosted by the Belmont 16s Sailing Club in support of Got Your Back Sista (GYBS), a registered charity established in 2016 with the vision to see women and their children happy, thriving, and living independently after escaping the trauma of family violence.
The event will run from 11am to 2pm.
Got Your Back Sista offers essential support to more than 1,200 women and their families, providing a hand up to begin again and empowering them to thrive.
The event costs $159 per person and includes a two-course luncheon with 2.5 hours of beverages, prizes, book signings for both Rosie and Steph’s books, as well as auctions to further support GYBS.
Tables of ten are $1,500.
Guests are asked to bring their own copies of Rosie Batty’s 2024 book Hope and Steph De Sousa’s 2024 The Air Frying Queen to have them signed by the authors.
An exciting addition to this year’s event is the auction of extraordinary prizes, including a full term of Tackers Learn to Sail for a child, valued at up to $320, and a dinner or lunch for 10 at Martha, valued at $590, both donated by Belmont 16s Sailing Club.
This auction offers a unique opportunity for guests further supporting the GYBS cause.
