Roger Mason set to impress Newcastle crowds

His sounds have backed bands like Models, Divinyls, Icehouse, Jenny Morris and Diesel, and now Australian music icon and award-winning film and television composer, Roger Mason is coming to Newcastle.

Performing with Steve Kilbey and The Winged Heels, the Central Coast resident will visit the former steel city as part of his upcoming album launch tour in June.

The double album, The Hall of Counterfeits, recorded at Damien Gerard Studios West Gosford, follows his much acclaimed album 11 Women, released September 2020.

Although most wouldn’t necessarily know him by name, they would certainly know Mason’s work, having played and recorded with some incredible musicians and bands over the years.

Mason’s songwriting credits include Wendy Matthews’ hit song Token Angels

He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame for his time with Models, and more recently he has been recording and touring with Steve Kilbey (The Church).

Their band The Winged Heels features ARIA award-winning classical guitarist Gareth Koch (Saffire – The Gregorian Brothers), Barton Price (Models) together with guest appearances by Andrew Beck (Seattle USA) and Scott Enderby.

Aside from his eclectic pop music history, Mason is an accomplished film and TV composer with more than 30 years experience.

He has won numerous industry accolades over the years with multiple awards and nominations in the AACTAs, AFIs and APRA awards.

Most recently he was nominated for two APRA Awards for his score on The Commons (Stan Original Series) and completed the score for The Hungry Ghosts (SBS On Demand)

Mason’s latest television series Reckoning (Sony Pictures) premiered on the Seven Network on Wednesday 28 April after successful releases in the US and UK.

Mason will be performing with Steve Kilbey and The Winged Heels on Thursday 3 June at Lizottes Newcastle.
