Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is scheduling a plethora of works this week throughout the Hunter region, from Salt Ash to New Lambton Heights.

Motorists are advised of changed overnight traffic conditions on Nelson Bay Road for maintenance, including road patching, between Janett Parade (Salt Ash) and Marsh Road (Bobs Farm).

To minimise the impact, it’ll take place from 7pm to 5am until Tuesday 1 April.

Traffic control, single lane closure and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be operational.

First Street at Weston

Road patching and line marking are slated at the intersection of First Street and Government Road, Weston.

Work is planned from 7pm to 5am on Mondy 31 March and expected to be completed in one night, weather permitting.

Traffic control, including single lane closures, alternating flow and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h, will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

M1 to Raymond Terrace – Black Hill to Tomago and Heatherbrae Bypass project

Construction continues along the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.

Work will be carried out at night at the following locations:

• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 31 March, Tuesday 1 April and Friday 4 April, the eastbound off-ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road
• From 7pm to 5am from Monday 31 March to Thursday 3 April, traffic will be stopped for 10-minute intervals on the Pacific Highway between Hunter Region Botanic Gardens and Old Punt Rd to complete works on overhead powerlines
• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 31 March, Tuesday 1 April and Friday 4 April, the eastbound and westbound lanes of the New England Highway will be under a contraflow arrangement from Tarro Rail Bridge to John Renshaw Drive
• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 31 March, Tuesday 1 April and Friday 4 April, the northbound and southbound lanes of the M1 will be under a contraflow arrangement from Weakleys Drive to Black Hill Road
• From 7pm to 5am on Monday 31 March and on Tuesday 1 April, the southbound and northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway will be under a contraflow arrangement from Richardson Road to Masonite Road

Operators of over-size and/or over-mass (OSOM) vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or with overall width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to contact the project team on 0423 323 946 for travel between Black Hill to Tomago or 1800 094 895 for Heatherbrae bypass site at least one day ahead of proposed movement.

Significant delays can occur if they fail to do so.

Major construction resumes across the remainder of the project from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 5pm on Saturday; and from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday.

The work will also require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:

From 7pm to 5am, on the nights of Monday 31 March until Friday 4 April

• M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
• John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
• New England Highway at Tarro
• Pacific Highway at Tomago, Heatherbrae and Raymond Terrace

From 7am to 5pm, Monday 31 March until Friday 4 April

• Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
• Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
• New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro

Cyclist detour on the Pacific Highway at Raymond Terrace

A cyclist detour will be implemented from Monday 31 March until the completion of the project in 2028.

The M1 Pacific Highway between Richardson Road and Masonite Road is out of action due to a reduced shoulder width through the area for construction staging.

Cycle detour signs will be provided at appropriate locations along the route on the M1 Pacific Highway, the Richardson Road roundabout, Richardson Road, Adelaide Street and the M1 Pacific Highway roundabout.

From 7am to 5pm Monday 31 March at Raymond Terrace:

• Richardson Road
• Adelaide Street
• Pacific Highway

From Thursday 3 April, southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway between Richardson Road and Masonite Road will be diverted onto a new road.

Adelaide Street at Heatherbrae

Bridge maintenance is proposed on Adelaide Street, north of Speedy Lock Lane, at Heatherbrae.

Only one lane of the structure will be open under stop/slow traffic control while the deck cleaning, repairs and graffiti cleaning take place.

It’ll be carried out from 8pm to 3am from Monday 31 March and is expected to be completed in four nights.

Maitland Road at Hexham

During the Hexham Straight Widening project, the right-hand turn lane into the U-turn facility north of Hexham Station will be permanently closed for inbound traffic on Maitland Road from Wednesday 2 April.

Freight will continue travelling 3km south to the Sparke Street U-turn facility or alternatively turn left into Old Maitland Road to use the Old Punt Road U-turn facility to travel outbound on Maitland Road.

OSOM loads required to contraflow over the northbound Hexham Bridge will be able to U-turn at the intersection of Maitland Road and Old Maitland Road under police escort.

Work is being carried out overnight from 7pm to 5am.

Thomas Street at Wallsend

Road resurfacing is intended for the Thomas Street and Newcastle Link Road intersection at Wallsend.

A number of lanes will be closed at the intersection of Lake and Thomas streets, with detours in place for motorists via Cowper, Metcalf and Thomas streets and Newcastle Link Road.

Work will be carried out from 7pm on Tuesday 1 April to 5am on Wednesday 2 April.

Lookout Road and McCaffrey Drive at New Lambton Heights

Changed traffic conditions are prearranged for the intersection of Lookout Road and McCaffrey Drive, New Lambton Heights.

The work is taking place as part of the construction for the Southern Interchange of the Rankin Park to Jesmond section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass.

It’ll be carried out for up to four weekends from 7pm on Friday 4 April to 5am the following Monday.

• Temporary traffic lane realignment and modification of the intersection including closure of slip lanes on McCaffrey Drive and Lookout Road, as well as the closure of one right turn lane from Lookout Road into McCaffrey Drive for the duration of the work
• Lookout Road will be reduced to one lane both northbound and southbound each weekend
• McCaffrey Drive will be closed in both directions between Marshall Street and Lookout Road on the third weekend of work, which is currently scheduled between 7pm on Friday 2 May and 5am on Monday 5 May

Detours of up to five kilometres are operational during this time, which may add up to 15 minutes of travel time to journeys

Footpath access will be maintained on the eastern side of Lookout Road throughout the work.

The footpath on McCaffrey Drive is being closed as part of the full weekend closure.

The two bus stops on Lookout Road will be relocated north for the duration of the work, too.

During the weekend closure of McCaffrey Drive, the bus stops west of Marshall Street will be closed, and the bus stop opposite Elbrook Drive will be relocated.
