Records set to be broken at Bitter and Twisted festival

SHARE

All the early signs point to this weekend’s Bitter and Twisted Boutique Beer Festival at Maitland Gaol being the most successful on record.

The 2022 line-up features 18 breweries and more than 80 craft beers – the largest number of local brewers in the event’s history.

Even ticket sales have gone through the roof, with Saturday 5 November (18+ only) already sold out, however patrons can still attend the all-ages affair on Sunday 6 November.

“After a two-year hiatus, everyone’s keen to return to Maitland Gaol,” Maitland City Council team leader events Tori Evans said.

“From the response so far, Bitter and Twisted has certainly cemented its place on the annual events calendar for fans of great music and people passionate about quality ales.

“Where else in Australia can you enjoy over 80 craft beers and your favourite tunes in a former maximum-security prison?

“On top of that, there’s a range of food stalls and other activities across the site, like Beer Trivia, Private Cell Blocks and Beer and Cheese Matching sessions.

“There is something truly unique about Bitter and Twisted.”

Heading the bumper entertainment bill is Sydney alternative indie rock band Middle Kids, who picked up an ARIA Award for Best Rock Album, following the release of their most recent record, Today We’re The Greatest.

Another award-winning outfit, four-piece roots collective The Beautiful Girls, who boast half a million album sales and 50 million Spotify streams, will headline Sunday’s program.

Good Lekker, soul ska group Fat Picnic, as well as The Dead Maggies, Liquid Zoo, Austin Mackay Chris Cavill and Newcastle-based singer songwriter BERLYN are expected to add to the atmosphere over the two days, too.
