Summary: It’s fair to say Western Suburbs endured an “up and down” season. Just when you thought the Rosellas had clicked into gear, and were semi-final bound, a loss or two derailed coach Rick Stone’s plans. In the end, the side only finished three points outside the top five… but it could have placed higher with a bit of luck. Western Suburbs also pushed eventual grand finalists South Newcastle in both their showdowns, however a lack of experience probably cost them in the “big moments”.

Having said that, there’s a lot to like about the Rosellas moving forward. They strung together five victories from their last six matches, claiming the scalps of Wyong, Macquarie and Central Newcastle along the way. The club’s under-19s also qualified for the decider, highlighting a strong nursery. Plus, Stone has added the likes of Will Smith, Nathan Ross and Kiah Cooper to his squad.
