REAL ESTATE: Lake Macquarie home needs new family

SHARE

It is with a tinge of sadness that Deb and Peter Cross plan to say farewell to their Valentine home.

Perched up high on Christopher Avenue, the views from the deck at the stunning five-bedroom, four-bathroom home will be etched in their memories for a lifetime.

Now retired and approaching their 70s however, they feel it’s time it was passed on to a younger family.

“We have two blue chairs near the window where we sit and have our morning tea,” Deb says.

“Once we’ve sat there enjoying the views in the morning, it’s very hard to move again.

“But it’s time for us to go and this home needs to be enjoyed by a family, it’s just too big for us.”

Set across three levels and spanning 607 square metres, this home boasts enough room for a family with teenagers to still have their own space.

Its five double bedrooms all have built in or walk in robes and fans, and of the four bathrooms, three are en-suites.

There’s a three-car garage, a chef’s kitchen with walk-in pantry and a 900mm double oven, gas cooking, and solar-powered electricity.

The plantation shutters throughout give a resort feel, as do the high ceilings, split system air conditioners, ducted vacuuming, theatre room, library and office.

In its outdoor entertaining area it has a built-in daybed and a waterfall.

And yet, both its agent Lance Jensen and its owners Deb and Peter Cross agree the home’s northerly aspect offers the greatest appeal.

“When we first bought the home almost six years ago we were moving from Baulkham Hills, so we were changing our views from bush to lake. It was a big change for us,” Deb says.

“We just thought it was beautiful, and everyone who came to visit would say to us, “it’s so peaceful”.

“My kids used to say that every time they’d arrive they’d walk up the stairs and instantly feel like they were on holiday.”

The ever-changing backdrop of the lake is something Deb says she will miss the most.

“The lake looks different at all times of the day,” she told Newcastle Weekly.

“I mean the ocean is great but the lake is busy all the time, all year round, from Float Your Boat in June, to the racing events and the leisure craft, and then of course there’s the colours of the sunsets – they’re just beautiful.”

Indoor and outdoor space was also never an issue when the family came to visit either.

“We actually had my 60th here a few years ago and all the family were able to stay here, we had people in every room,” Deb says.

Deb and Peter are planning to stay within the Lake Macquarie area.

“We’ve fallen in love with the area and the people, we have lovely neighbours and we’ve made some great connections here. We just think it’s time this home was filled with a family.”
