Razor-sharp Revue crew set to serve satirical comedy gold

On the back of a sell-out tour in 2022 that included their first-ever Hunter show, The Wharf Revue returns once again to Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) next month.

Their new production Looking For Albanese – on Wednesday 12 April from 8pm – promises yet another uproarious examination of the political landscape… both at home and abroad.

Twenty-two years after they first took the stage at Sydney Theatre Company, the team behind The Wharf Revue shows no signs of slowing down or losing their trademark wit.

Co-created by Newcastle-born and raised Jonathan Biggins, along with Drew Forsythe and Phillip Scott, the troupe has built a well-deserved reputation as one of Sydney’s – if not the country’s – greatest satirical institutions since their first outing way back in 2000.

The trio is joined on stage again by Amanda Bishop, another Hunter region-raised talent (hailing from Bunnan, hallway between Merriwa and Scone).

And, over the course of 90 minutes, the quartet proves themselves to be comedic chameleons, with uncannily accurate costuming and wigs, and on-point impersonations leaving no doubt as to who their intended targets are.

No politician is safe and no issues off-limits when it comes to the deliciously satirical skewering of the Wharf Revue crew – Julia Gillard, John Howard, Tony Abbott, Kevin Rudd, Pauline Hanson and (naturally) Anthony Albanese all find themselves in the crosshairs.

Australia’s PM takes centre stage in sketches such as Albo Baggins and the Mountain of Debt, Albo in Wonderland, and Inner West Side Story.

Inflation, rising interest rates, conflict in Ukraine, climate disaster, culture wars, COVID 19-20-21-22-23, and a looming World War Three are just some of the big-picture issues ripe for parody.

The Wharf Revue: Looking For Albanese will take place at Performance Arts Culture Cessnock (PACC) for one night only on Wednesday 12 April.

Tickets are on sale at the PACC Box Office, by phone on 4993 4266 or online at
