Raymond Terrace residents asked to weigh in on new Place Plan

SHARE

Residents are being asked to help shape the future of Raymond Terrace.

Port Stephens Council is beginning to work on a new Place Plan to guide how the growing town develops in the years ahead.

It’ll build on the Raymond Terrace-Heatherbrae Strategy, which has guided the area since 2015, and respond to local housing and community needs.

“We want our young people to be able to afford to live here and our seniors to have the option to downsize without needing to leave their friends and family,” Port Stephens mayor Leah Anderson said.

“Our Local Housing Strategy shows that Raymond Terrace has the potential to support 2,500 new homes… and it’s vital that these are the right kind of homes.

“The new Place Plan will help ensure the town remains affordable and accessible for all generations.

“By planning for a variety of housing types, like townhouses and smaller units, we can help every generation stay connected to Raymond Terrace.”

The new plan will outline the community’s vision and find practical actions to achieve it, while still maintaining the town’s character.

It provides Raymond Terrace with the opportunity to invest in the right mix of homes and public spaces suited for everyone.

“We know from people already that safety, the upkeep of our parks, better walking, cycling and transport connections are major concerns,” Cr Anderson said.

“We’re looking at real fixes with input to make sure this plan reflects what matters most.

“This is an important opportunity for residents to have a say in this new plan and how their town grows.

“We hosted a community workshop this week for locals to share their thoughts and there’s an online option for those to have their say at a time that is convenient to them.”

Feedback can be submitted through the Have Your Say Port Stephens website until 7 Apri.
