Rapid Relief Team says ‘thank you’ to Maitland Hospital staff

SHARE

Their collective efforts often go “unthanked” and “unappreciated”.

But, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) visited Maitland Hospital recently to thank its staff for all they do to care for the community.

The organisation’s sensational gesture included a delicious lunch.

Volunteers brought along RRT’s barbeques to cook up and serve more than 820 “signature burgers” and other refreshments to workers throughout the day.

Local team leader Josh Willy said the event was aimed at recognising the tireless dedication of healthcare teams who provided vital attention to patients from near and far.

“We are grateful to be able to work with Maitland Hospital and Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) to put on a special meal to boost the morale of the hard-working nurses, doctors, and other staff,” he explained.

“Our volunteers really appreciate the chance to give something back to those who do so much for the Maitland community… and see all their smiling faces.”

HNELHD volunteer and community coordinator Kim Simpson admitted everyone was thrilled.

“It is such an honour for the RRT to visit our hospital and pay it forward to the staff who are constantly at the frontline,” she said.

As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT supports workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting events for the community.

It was established in 2013 to help in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other assistance.

Since then, it’s expanded to more than 16,000 volunteers and provides respite through benevolent contributions and events.
