Put your mark on Cessnock’s Apex Park

SHARE

Cessnock residents are being invited to have their say on a concept masterplan, which will turn Apex Park into an iconic gateway site.

The move follows council’s recent endorsement of the proposal.

Located on the intersection of Wollombi and Allandale roads, Apex Park has been identified as an “entry” to the vineyards, which will also accompany the upgrade to Cessnock Pool across the road.

The masterplan was developed to create a visually stunning and iconic gateway attraction the community would be proud of.

The concept includes plans to naturalise and transform the concrete drainage channel, as well as construct an all-abilities area.

It will complement Cessnock Pool and provide a cultural connection to the site, while maintaining public parking and vehicle connectivity.

Cessnock City mayor Jay Suvaal is encouraging the community to check out the masterplan and offer feedback.

“This has been developed to stimulate discussion and provide a practical option for redeveloping the site into an attractive and welcoming park for residents and visitors to enjoy,” he explained.

“A lot of thought, research and detail has gone into this plan.

“So, I look forward to hearing what residents have to say about it – and seeing the final result.”

The creative inspiration for the design came following discussions with Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council and research undertaken by Terras Landscape Architects.

Both historical and cultural connections to the site were used to develop the project, while elements such as red cedar, meeting circles with water misting, and a fishing net bridge will be included.

The Apex Park Concept Masterplan will be placed on public exhibition via council’s website from now until Monday 28 March.
