Proud Novocastrian Scott Bevan new voice of ABC Newcastle Saturday breakfast

One of the region’s most celebrated journalists Scott Bevan is returning to the ABC, as the voice of the radio station’s Saturday breakfast show.

The proud Novocastrian, who grew up in Merewether Heights, remains well-known throughout the Hunter.

After finetuning his skills in journalism and storytelling, he was employed as a television reporter for the Nine Network before joining the ABC.

Mr Bevan worked as a contributor and occasional presenter for The 7.30 Report and, at the end of 2007, was appointed the ABC’s Russian correspondent.

He came “home” in 2010, linking up with the ABC News channel.

As well, the much-loved author directed and presented three documentaries: Oll – The Life and Art of Margaret Olley; The Hunter, based on his book of the same name, exploring by kayak the river coursing through his home region; and Arthur Phillip – Governor, Sailor, Spy

Mr Bevan said he was delighted to be taking on the Saturday breakfast role permanently.

“I’m excited to be back with the ABC… and telling stories in my local area and talking with Hunter people about what matters to them – and to me,” he admitted.

“I’ve had the great privilege of reporting from many parts of the globe.

“But, to contribute to the conversation in the Hunter means the world to me.

“And, since this is a Saturday program, we’ll be talking about the things that make the weekend – and life – wonderful.

“So, there’ll be plenty to talk about together.”

ABC Newcastle, Upper Hunter and Central Coast editor Lucia Hill said they were excited to have Mr Bevan join their team.

“Scott brings with him not only decades of experience from across the globe but a genuine passion for our region,” she stated.

“I know our audience is going to love spending Saturdays with him between 6am and noon.”
