Port Stephens a wonderful place to live: Anderson

SHARE

Leah Anderson firmly thinks Port Stephens is a wonderful place to live.

And, that’s why the well-known businesswoman has put her hand up to go head-to-head with current mayor Ryan Palmer (Independent) in Saturday’s NSW Local Government elections.

She’ll be joined on the Labor ticket by incumbent West Ward councillor Giacomo Arnott, with Medowie school teacher Jason Wells seeking victory in Central Ward.

Ms Anderson is the president of the local business chamber, the founder of Port Stephens Women in Business, a director and volunteer with Port Stephens Koalas and a long-term member of Salamander Bay Rotary.

So, she’s the ideal candidate to represent all residents.

“It’s time for someone to put our community first,” she said.

“And, we need councillors and a mayor who’ll genuinely listen.

“My pitch is really simple.

“I believe in listening to local residents – and I believe in supporting our incredible community.

“I think it’s time for Port Stephens Council to reconnect with our neighbourhoods and local families.

“This election will give us a real opportunity to shape the future of Port Stephens.

“So, I want to lead that change, to make sure community is at the heart of it.”

Cr Arnott was first elected to council in 2017 and is widely-known for leading the community campaign to stop Cr Palmer’s 66% rate rise in 2019.

He’s a lawyer and professional firefighter in Raymond Terrace, too.

“I’ve spent the past four years on council fighting to make sure our community’s voices are heard,” Cr Arnott said.

“So, I’m incredibly proud to be supporting Leah [Anderson] to be our next mayor.

“She is the perfect person to lead Port Stephens Council into the future.”

That sentiment is echoed by Mr Wells, a local school teacher in Medowie.

He also helped build Medowie Little Athletics into the strong club it is today.

In addition to fighting for improved community infrastructure and services, he’s been a vocal advocate for people living with disabilities.

“The upcoming election [on Saturday 4 December] is an opportunity to make sure local communities are getting their fair share,” Mr Wells said.

“I’ve lived in Medowie for 16 years.

“So, we all know that local infrastructure and services haven’t kept up.

“Right across Port Stephens, we need local representatives who will listen and support our communities.

“I’m excited to put my name forward alongside these incredible local advocates like Leah and Giacomo.”
