Popular local personality set to ‘weather’ talks in Coalfields

SHARE

Former television presenter Gavin Morris will share his insights of science and storytelling during a special visit to the Coalfields this week.

And, of course, the ex-NBN News anchor is certain to chin-wag with locals about his favourite subject – the weather, too.

The much-loved personality will speak at Cessnock Library from 5.30pm to 7pm on Monday 2 February, as well as Kurri Kurri Bowling Club between 5.30pm and 7pm on Tuesday 3 February.

The free events are expected to involve relaxed, engaging and insightful conversation – more of a chat around the kitchen table than a presentation – as Morris reflects on decades of connecting with communities through the universal topic of the weather.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their curiosity and questions to the talkfest (cake, tea and coffee will be supplied), which promises to be an entertaining evening with plenty of shared laughter.

Cessnock City Council’s acting library services co-ordinator Andrew Powell said it was a thrill to host an event that celebrated the way weather could bring people together.

“There’s something deeply comforting about gathering over a cuppa to talk about the forecast,” he explained.

“Even when we’re talking about rain or heatwaves, these conversations build connection.

“Gavin Morris has been a familiar and trusted voice in homes across regional NSW for years – he was often the first person residents turned to when planning their day.”

Kurri Kurri Bowling Club is generously hosting the Tuesday event while Kurri Kurri Library remains closed for repairs and upgrades.

Bookings are essential for the two talks, which have been funded by a grant from the Department of Home Affairs.

To reserve your spot, visit Cessnock City Council’s Eventbrite page or phone Cessnock Library on 4993 4399.

“Come rain, hail or shine, we’ll see you there,” Mr Powell said.
