Newcastle City Police District is appealing for public assistance following a report of intimidating behaviour at Bar Beach on Friday evening.
Officers have started an investigation after receiving details about the actions of two males in a car park off Memorial Drive about 5.50pm on 24 April.
They were told the pair allegedly mimicked using a firearm in the area before leaving in a white Toyota Landcruiser prior to police arrival.
Officers have spoken to a 23-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy at a Jesmond address as part of inquiries.
As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone who was in the area who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident to contact Newcastle Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
