Well-known sporting identity Jack Newton found safe and sound

10PM: Newcastle City Police District would like to thank the community and the media for their assistance in locating Jack Newton, who was found safe and well tonight.

It is believed the golfing legend was discovered on Derby Street, many hours after being reported missing.

EARLIER: Police are appealing for public assistance to locate well-known sporting identity Jack Newton from the Newcastle area.

The 71-year-old was last seen walking in a westerly direction on Wharf Road about 5.30pm on Wednesday 31 March.

Mr Newton has not been seen since.

His family reported him missing to Newcastle City Police District, who immediately started an investigation into his whereabouts.

Police and family hold concerns for Mr Newton’s welfare due to an ongoing medical condition.

He is described as being of Caucasian in appearance, 180cm tall, large build, brown hair, brown eyes, and is missing his right arm.

He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, denim shorts, beige shoes and a blue cap, with the letter J on the front.

Officers are urging anyone with information about Mr Newton’s whereabouts to contact Newcastle City Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
