An operation near Bar Beach carpark and Strzelecki Lookout has finished and members of the public can now access the Anzac Memorial Walk.

A recovery operation is underway after the body of a man was located near the Strzelecki Lookout at Bar Beach overnight.

Emergency services were called to the location at about 6pm yesterday (Wednesday 20 January), following a concern for welfare for a man believed to be aged in his 30s.

Upon arrival, police located the body of a man.

A crime scene was established and held overnight, with a recovery operation underway this morning (Thursday 21 January).

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

The Strzelecki Lookout, Anzac Memorial Walk and the top of Bar Beach carpark will be closed until the body is recovered.

The operation is set to take a number of hours given the nature of the incident.

The public are urged to avoid the area whilst the operation is ongoing.
