Podcast for women on the go

Laura Jackel and Alana Dagwell are taking the podcast world by storm.

In 2018, the pair created Oversubscribed and, with season three set to be released later this month, their fans continue to grow.

“At the end of season one we had 1,000 listeners and at the end of season two we had over 3,500 listeners,” Jackel said.

“It’s more than tripled and, while most are here in the Hunter, we have listeners all over the world.”

A podcast is an episodic series of digital audio files that a user can download in order to listen.

Jackel and Dagwell’s decision to create Oversubscribed stemmed from their love of chatting and careers in the media.

“We were fans of a variety of podcasts and as friends we love to talk, so we decided over breakfast back in December 2018 to start one up,” Jackel said.

“Our target audience is women like us – around 40 years old.

“We talk about kids, work, popular culture and topics related to women in this stage of life.

“We are the podcast for women who are hell-bent on squeezing the most out of life.”

Jackal said season three would be “more the same”, with the pair to bring in an expert every episode to discuss different topics.

She added that the expert’s professional input strengthens their content.

“This season we’re talking about the school system and how hard it is to juggle the schedule as a working mum, the next decade or ‘the roaring 20s’, the Royal Family, and whether or not we can laugh about ageing,” Jackal said.

They aim to keep each episode to about 30 minutes long so listeners can tune in while they travel to work.

The pair are very grateful to their sponsors who allow them to continue to share the podcast with the community.

While season one was self-funded, season two had eight different sponsors – one for each episode.

Season three has been supported by Event Cinemas Kotara and Glendale.

The Oversubscribed podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify or you can access it through their website.
