SHARE

A cast of colourful characters, and their fantastic machines, will wrap up their latest odyssey in Newcastle this weekend.

After a week-long adventure on the road, delivering grants to kids in need in regional NSW and Queensland, 300 Variety NSW Bash participants are expected to land at Foreshore Park for a Family Fun Day.

Between 11am and 3pm, on Saturday 25 May, locals and visitors alike can enjoy entertainment, amusement rides, food stalls and the chance to see the 100-strong convoy of cars – themed from Thomas the Tank Engine and Lightning McQueen to Star Wars, Harry Potter and Minions – as they finish their thrilling journey.

The Variety NSW Bash is a unique event that brings together motoring enthusiasts from all walks of life in a spectacular display of camaraderie and community spirit.

Throughout the 2,400km trek, $95,000 in grants will be awarded to rural schools and communities along the route.

Stops include Gunnedah, Emmaville, Warwick, Yangan, Moonie, Roma, Bymount, Begonia, St George, Mungindi, Garah, Moree, Mallawa, Mullaley, Tamworth, Duri and Muswellbrook.

“We are thrilled to be bringing back the Variety NSW Bash for another year,” Variety NSW/ACT CEO Tony Warner said.

“This event is a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts.

“It plays a vital role in helping us provide essential support to children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability across NSW.

“The Variety NSW Bash is not just about the drive, it’s about the incredible people who participate.

“From seasoned veterans to first-time Bashers, everyone comes together with a shared passion for making a difference in the lives of children.”

In 2024, the beneficiaries included Emmaville Central School, Yangan State School, Moonie State School, Begonia State School, Bymount State School, St George State School, Mungindi Central School, Garah Public School, Mallawa Public School, Mullaley Public School and Duri Public School.

Each will each receive more than $5,000 for educational resources and sporting equipment such as projectors, workbooks, pedal desks and high jump mats.
