Ironically it was one of Pink Floyd’s most popular songs and with a return to live shows at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre after months of COVID-cancelled performances, Wish You Were Here could be seen somewhat as an anthem when performed on stage next month.
The 1975-produced song is one of many expected to impress audiences as Australia’s largest scale Pink Floyd concept act, Echoes of Pink Floyd, take to the stage on December 10.
Entitled A Journey Through Time, the Adelaide-based band will take audiences on a musical and visual journey from Pink Floyd’s earliest days in 1960’s London to its 1990’s powerhouse performances.
Newcastle fans are expected to be treated to a taste of the band’s extensive catalogue of songs, from Pink Floyd’s biggest smash hits to some hand-picked deep album tunes.
An additional treat will be young local performers providing the memorable Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 choir.
Formed in 2009 and boasting a string of live performances, Echoes of Pink Floyd comprises a six-piece band featuring Daniel Hunter on lead guitar; Jason Miller on drums; Tony Coppola on bass; Paul Bindig on keyboards and synthesisers; Mark MacNab on rhythm and acoustic guitar and Matt Goodluck on lead vocals.
The tribute band, that has been touring nationally since 2014, has been described by audiences as “amazingly awesome” and “a musical and visual journey that never disappoints”, while also likening them to “the original band”.
Newcastle will be their first show back since the more recent COVID outbreaks.
The gig is one of a handful to return to the stage at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre to wind up the 2021 season.
After COVID-19 forced the cancellation of months of expected events, the 800-seat theatre reopened in November with Priscilla Queen of the Desert – A Musical on November 10.
