Motorists travelling along Nelson Bay Road between Williamtown and Salt Ash are being warned of changed traffic conditions next week.
Surveying and geotechnical investigation work will be carried out between Medowie Road, Williamtown and Richardson Road, Salt Ash from Monday 14 September to Friday 2 October.
The work will help inform the future upgrade of Nelson Bay Road, with motorists expected to encounter changed conditions in both directions while crews are on site.
Work will take place from 7pm to 5am on Sunday to Thursday nights, with no work scheduled on Friday or Saturday nights.
During the overnight works, motorists may encounter lane closures and stop/slow traffic control as crews carry out the investigations.
Traffic controllers will be on site to direct motorists through the work zone.

A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place, with drivers urged to check signage, follow the directions of traffic controllers and allow extra travel time.
The investigations are expected to take about three weeks to complete, weather and resources permitting.
Motorists travelling through the area at night are encouraged to take extra care and be prepared for changed conditions around the worksite.
Oversize and over mass vehicles will be required to pull over when approaching the worksite and wait to be escorted through.
The project will operate on UHF channel 17.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead if travelling along this section of Nelson Bay Road during the affected hours and allow additional time for their journey.
Transport for NSW has thanked motorists for their patience while the work is carried out.
