It has been one year since Newcastle Airport opened the doors to its new international terminal, marking a major step in connecting the Hunter directly with overseas travel.
The terminal officially opened on 25 September 2025 and has since helped support a record year for Newcastle Airport, with more than 1.3 million passengers travelling through the airport in the 2025-26 financial year.
Bali (Denpasar International Airport) is currently Newcastle Airport’s only direct international destination, with four flights operating each week.
The service also provides onward connectivity to Singapore via Bali, with passengers able to book the journey on a single itinerary and remain on the same aircraft during the 90-minute stopover.
Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton said the first anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on what the international terminal had delivered for the Hunter.
“Opening the international terminal gave the Hunter more opportunities to connect to more of Australia and more of the world, direct from their doorstep,” he said.
The past year has also seen Newcastle Airport announce new domestic routes to Perth and Hobart as it continues to expand its network.
The terminal’s first birthday coincides with the start of the spring school holidays, with around 65,000 passengers expected to travel through Newcastle Airport over the holiday period.
That is almost 10 per cent more than the September-October school holiday period last year.
