One in hospital after boat explosion in Lake Macquarie

SHARE

A man has been transported to hospital after a boat explosion in Lake Macquarie last night.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded to the incident in Fenell Bay just before 6pm.

On arrival, crews found the 30ft cruiser alight and adrift in the water.

Firefighters set up hose lines from the shore while the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) launched their boat into the river to help extinguish the fire.

It was reported that the boat was carrying approximately 600 litres of diesel on board.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death.
