One death, 2,069 new COVID-19 cases in HNELHD

The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) recorded another COVID-19 related death overnight after a woman in her 70s from Lake Macquarie passed away.

It comes as the region detected 2,069 new cases – the highest number of any local health district in the state.

There are currently 84 people with COVID-19 in hospital across the region, including three in ICU.

NSW as a whole reported 15,414 new infections and 15 deaths – eight men and seven women in their 40s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Of the 13 people who died over the age of 65, one person had received four doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, eight people had received three doses, three people had received two doses, and one person was not vaccinated.

Of the two people who died under the age of 65, one person had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and one person was unvaccinated.

Both had underlying health conditions.

They were from Lake Macquarie, Sydney and Wollongong.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,641.

There are currently 1,639 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital across the state, including 72 people in intensive care, 24 of whom require ventilation.
