Newcastle Knights international Olivia Higgins has extended her stay with the club, signing a new NRLW contract through to the end of 2027.
The deal comes as Higgins prepares to celebrate another significant milestone, with the hooker set to make her 50th NRLW appearance on Sunday when the Knights host the St George Illawarra Dragons at McDonald Jones Stadium.
An Aberglasslyn Ants junior, Higgins made her NRLW debut with the Sydney Roosters during their 2021 premiership-winning campaign.
She returned to Newcastle the following season and played a key role in the Knights’ back-to-back premiership victories in 2022 and 2023, giving her three consecutive NRLW titles.
Higgins has since become an established representative player, featuring in both the Women’s State of Origin and for the Jillaroos.
Knights head coach Ben Jeffries said her leadership, professionalism and influence had been central to the club’s success.
“Olivia has played an integral part in our success at the Newcastle Knights,” he said.
“Her desire to compete and improve every week is a testament to her determination and professionalism.
“She has been a dream to coach since day one. The best compliment I can give Liv is the trust she has built with her teammates, coaches and the entire club.”
Jeffries said Higgins’ rugby league background and natural instincts had also made her an important mentor within the squad.
“When you combine that with her unique ability to mentor and nurture others, her impact has been significant,” he said.
“On behalf of everyone at the Newcastle Knights, we wish Olivia all the best as she celebrates the huge achievement of 50 NRLW games.
“We are ecstatic she has decided to continue with the club through to 2027.”
