A man has been charged after allegedly exposing himself at a Newcastle beach, with police later finding dozens of knives and an axe in his vehicle.
The incident occurred at Horseshoe Beach on Monday, 24 August, with police called about 9am following reports a man had driven onto the beach before standing naked near his vehicle.
Officers attached to Police Transport Command North Central arrived a short time later and allegedly saw the man attempting to leave the beach in his vehicle.
The 50-year-old underwent a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result for cannabis and cocaine.
A secondary oral fluid sample was also taken and has been sent for further analysis.
Police searched the man’s vehicle and allegedly located 21.56 grams of cannabis, along with 38 knives and an axe.
The man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He was charged with five offences, including wilful and obscene exposure in a public place, possessing a prohibited drug, custody of a knife in a public place and two counts of possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.
The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, 27 August.
