NRL: The Best outcome for Knights as Bradman signs new deal

Can life get any better for Newcastle Knights star Bradman Best?

After debuting for the NSW Blues in the 2023 State of Origin Series, the gifted centre attracted the attention of several rival NRL clubs, including the Wests Tigers, in the race for his signature for 2025… and beyond.

But, thankfully, the 22-year-old will call the Hunter home for another three seasons.

Newcastle confirmed this week Best is going nowhere.

It means the Central Coast product will remain a one club player until at least the end of 2027.

“We are delighted Bradman has re-committed to the Knights,” director of football Peter Parr said.

“He had a wonderful season in 2023 and, at his age, there is no doubt he will continue to grow and improve.

“We look forward to Bradman playing a significant role for the club in the coming years.”

Best has been a contracted player with Newcastle his entire career.

He progressed through the junior representative teams and elite pathways programs to make his debut against the Tigers in round 23, 2019, just days after turning 18 and becoming eligible for NRL selection.

Since then, he’s crossed the line 30 times from 70 appearances.

In round 18 in 2023, Best scored a hat-trick in the Knights’ 66-0 victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Less than 24 hours later, he received a call-up to the Blues squad for game three of the State of Origin series.

While some pundits questioned the selection of NSW player number 309, he blitzed the opposition.

He bagged a brace of tries as the Blues smashed Queensland 24-10, in front of a packed Accor Stadium, to help coach Brad Fittler avoid a clean-sweep.

Now, Best will turn his attention to winning a premiership with Newcastle after the side contested the 2023 play-offs.
