NRL: Knights already celebrating major milestone in 2024

A ball is yet to be kicked in anger, however the Newcastle Knights are already celebrating a major milestone in 2024.

The Hunter-based NRL club, famously known for its loyal fan base, this week welcomed more than 24,000 members to the fold, a reflection of the supporters’ unwavering dedication and the organisation’s enduring legacy.

On the back of an historic 2023 – including three consecutives sold out games at McDonald Jones Stadium, mirrored by the NRLW team’s back-to-back premierships in 2022 and 2023 – membership reached 24,179, smashing the previous record of 21,685 by 2,494.

Amazingly, in 2010, that figure stood at just under 5,000.

But, the transformative period following the Wests Group’s acquisition in 2018 has ushered in a significant era of growth for the Knights.

The announcement also coincides with the introduction of Newcastle’s 2024 membership partner, Reflections Holiday Parks.

Chief marketing officer Peter Chapman said the connection between both parties was clear.

“Knights members and supporters have long been regarded as the envy of the league,” he explained.

“The bonus is they live and play in many of the special spots our 40 parks are located.

“Reflections and the Knights share a mutual love for the community, for first nations culture and for regional NSW, so it wasn’t hard to see the value.”

Newcastle CEO Philip Gardner agreed the partnership was a perfect combination.

“We’re delighted to have Reflections on board,” he said.

“Knights supporters will recognise that brand with most of their award-winning properties stretching from the Hunter to the Northern Rivers.

“It’s an ideal alignment.”

Membership numbers continue to grow across all categories, with five weeks remaining until the National Rugby League season kicks off at McDonald Jones Stadium on Thursday 7 March.

“So, securing your seat is the priority,” Gardner said.

“On behalf of all the players and staff, we would like to sincerely thank all our loyal members for their support.”
