When it staged its first awards ceremony in 1975, the Newcastle Business Club committed to recognising and celebrating individuals and organisations that made the Hunter region a better place to live.
Having been established since 1933, the growing networking group sought to acknowledge its members’ significant contributions.
Whether it was efforts toward the improvement of industry, culture, education, sport or the wellbeing of the citizens of the city of Newcastle, the awards publicly identify the work being done in the community.

Forty-nine years later, the annual awards are continuing with that ethos.
And, this week, Newcastle Business Club opened nominations for its prestigious 2024 edition.
The non-profit organisation, dedicated to professional development and knowledge-sharing among business leaders in Newcastle, is calling for entries in the categories of youth, organisation and individual.
The award presentation will include a framed image featuring a miniature copy of “The Summerhouse” by Hilda Rix-Nicholas, symbolising the club’s commitment to the community.
“We are excited to launch this year’s awards and continue the tradition of celebrating excellence within our community,” says Newcastle Business Club president Rob Dawson.
“These awards highlight the incredible efforts of individuals and organisations that drive positive change and make Newcastle a better place for all.”

For 2023 winner of the Youth category, Scott Lynch from Mayfield’s Community Therapy, the awards also offer a brand boost.
“Being named the Newcastle Business Club’s Youth Business Leader of the Year in 2023 was an incredible honour and a wonderful surprise,” he says.
“It was a recognition of our team’s commitment to truly person-centred clinical care at Community Therapy.
“The award bolstered our reputation, opened new opportunities, and inspired us to continue making a positive impact.”
Marty Adnum, from Out Of The Square Media (OOTS Media), says the recognition is like a pat on the back.
He’s been a past winner of both the Individual (2020) and the Organisation (2018) categories.
“Because I’m old I have seen NBC evolve into a truly progressive and inclusive organisation with a genuine passion for Newcastle and the regions success,” he says.
“That passion inspired us to enter the awards on a few occasions and were fortunate enough to win both Individual and Organisation categories over that time.

“I think there’s a lot of people who tend to write awards in general off as a w@nk, until they win one.
“They are truly important in recognising committed effort, strong beliefs and a desire to help others. So, I’d say go for it and NBC’s are one of region’s most prestigious and look great in the pool room.”
Nominations for the annual Newcastle Business Club Awards will close on Wednesday 31 July.
Finalists will be announced in August.
