With summer in full swing, and children enjoying the school holidays, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained this month.
The Rocky Horror Show

Frank N Furter, to be played by Jason Donovan, and the Narrator (Myf Warhurst) will take to the stage at the Civic Theatre when The Rocky Horror Show rolls into the CBD.
The iconic extravaganza is the first in a new line-up of elite offerings brought to Newcastle by leading British theatre producer Sir Howard Panter.
Written and created by Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Show has become one of the world’s favourite musicals and returns after enjoying sell out performances and rave reviews during its 2023 season of the 50th anniversary tour.
Follow squeaky-clean sweethearts Brad and Janet on an adventure they’ll never forget.
Bursting at the seams with timeless classics, including the Time Warp, it’s a guaranteed party.
The production runs for 120 minutes, including intermission and is recommended for ages 12 and older.

Australian Deaf Games 2024

- When: 13 to 20 January

The Australian Deaf Games will see more than 1,000 athletes, officials and visitors converge on Newcastle and Lake Macquarie for the week-long event.
While the Opening and Closing ceremonies are always a highlight, along with the After Games Party, competitors are expected to showcase their skills in countless disciplines: athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, darts, futsal, golf, lawn bowls, netball, rugby 7s, football, swimming, table tennis, tennis and touch footy.
In 2024, crossfit, park run, sailing, surfing and triathlon have been added to the program as demonstration sports.
So, backed by world-class venues, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie are the “must be at” locations for the Oceania’s deaf and hard of hearing community in 2024, providing a unique opportunity for everyone within and connected with the community to network, meet new people, celebrate with friends and colleagues, compete and be inspired.
Lake Mac Festival 2024

The popular Lake Mac Festival is returning for another year, with a weekend of fun planned.
On Saturday, bring your friends and family and head to the shores of Lake Macquarie as organisers “light up the lake” with a spectacular fireworks display, from 9pm, spanning four locations across the city.
Pack a picnic, support local businesses or grab some dinner and drinks from a selection of food vendors based at each of the key viewing sites – Warners Bay Foreshore, Toronto Foreshore, Belmont – Brooks Parade Reserve and Speers Point Park – between 5pm and 9pm.
Then, on Sunday, the much-loved free community breakfast will be back again on the sparkling shores of the lake at Rathmines.
Local groups will cook up a storm from 7.30am with a range of items including pancakes, fruit salad, bacon and egg sandwiches and the Aussie staple, the humble sausage sizzle.
