NNSWF launches Walking Football pilot program at Lake Mac

SHARE

Hunter men and women aged 50 years and older are invited to take part in Northern NSW Football’s (NNSWF) exciting Walking Football pilot program.

The initiative will be launched with a free Come and Try event as part of the NSW Seniors Festival at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility from 10am on Tuesday 20 April.

NNSWF then kicks off its Monday Social League at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on 3 May, which will run for eight weeks.

Each session will start at 6pm and finish by 7pm.

A Tuesday Social League is scheduled to begin on 4 May, which will also run for eight weeks, kicking off at 10am and ending at 11am.

The weekday morning session is specifically aimed at retirees looking for an opportunity for social interaction and to remain active.

Walking Football is a low-impact, team-based exercise utilising the defined rules and formats.

It is a non-contact form of the game with players always having one foot on the ground.

Matches are played with modified 5v5 or 6v6 formats on smaller pitches with shortened match time.

Players register individually with teams formed on the day or night.

Walking Football aims to provide participants physical and mental health benefits as well as social connectedness.

“We’re super excited to get this pilot program up and running,” NNSWF Kick-On for Women project officer Michelle Forbes said.

“Or, up and walking in this case.

“We’re keen for as many people as possible to come along and enjoy a different version of the game.”

The cost of the pilot program is $80 per person for the eight-week league.

Players can register online for the Walking Football Social Leagues online at www.northernnswfootball.com.au/walking-football
