A ninth man has been arrested and a motorbike seized as investigations into a large, unauthorised gathering in Mayfield last month continue.

Officers executed a warrant at a home on Wollombi Road, Cessnock on Wednesday and, during the search, allegedly located and seized items of interest including a motorbike.

A 24-year-old man was charged and taken to Cessnock police station.

He was charged with five offences including rioting, using violence to cause fear, destroying or damaging property greater than $2,000 and less than or equal to $5,000, driving recklessly/furiously or at a dangerous speed/manner, and driving while disqualified.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Cessnock Local Court on Thursday 3 September.

The charges follow an incident at Dangar Park on Ingall Street, Mayfield, last month.

Police were called on Sunday, 14 June at around 1pm following reports of a large gathering.

On arrival, police found between 150-200 people had gathered in the park, while a further 30-40 people were riding unregistered trail bikes in parkland and on surrounding streets. Streets were closed nearby, with traffic redirected due to safety concerns.

Police attached to Newcastle City Police District established Operation Horizon to investigate the incident.

During the investigation, eight men were arrested and charged in relation to the incident. All eight remain before the courts.

A total of 26 unregistered motorbikes have been seized under Operation Horizon and inquiries into the gathering are continuing.
