The Newcastle Weekly is ready to kick more goals after joining forces with the Newcastle Jets for the 2023/24 A-League season.
After just celebrating its first anniversary under new local ownership, the much-loved publication was keen to spread its wings moving forward, and linking up with one of the city’s most popular sporting brands seemed an ideal fit.
The Jets, with diligent managers Ron Stanton (A-League Men’s) and Gary van Egmond (A-League Women’s) on board, are keen to lift both of their talented squads to the top of their respective competitions again.
It’s that hard-working ethos, which drew the attention of Newcastle Weekly owner/publisher Nicole Shelley.
“With the Hunter-based club undergoing a makeover, due to a host of newcomers in the playing ranks, the organisation’s transformation aligns perfectly with our own magazine’s journey in the past year,” she said.
“The Newcastle Jets are instantly recognisable throughout the region, along with the Knights.
“And, following the success of the Matildas on home soil at the FIFA World Cup and the incredible hometown support for Emily van Egmond and Clare Wheeler, as well as the rise in the code’s profile, we’re keen to be part of their journey as they attempt to snare the A-League Men’s and A-League Women’s crowns.
“So, we’re delighted to form a partnership with the Newcastle Jets.
“Football is all about teamwork, which is something the Newcastle Weekly can relate to as well.
“We’ll strive to share the news, stories and photos of Newcastle’s elite footballers through our free daily online platform and EDMs.
“Plus, we will publish a column, the inside word from coaches Rob (Stanton) and Gary (van Egmond), in our monthly magazine and on our website.
“October starts with proud dad Gary van Egmond, who revelled in his daughter’s outstanding World Cup feats.
“We wish both Jets sides all the best in their quests to raise the ALM and ALW trophies high above their heads.”
Newcastle begins its ALW campaign against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday 14 October, with the ALM outfit tackling the Perth Glory, a week later, on Sunday 22 October.
