Newcastle’s premier “live” theatre producer The Very Popular Theatre Company (TVPTC) is inviting fans from everywhere to its 2022 season launch.

And, you can tune into the virtual unveiling on the Very Pop Facebook page (facebook.com/VeryPopularTheatreCo) on Sunday 24 October at 5pm for the details of the four fabulous shows set to be produced in 2022.

Three outstanding new industry development programs the company is launching is expected to be announced, too.

TVPTC executive and artistic director Daniel Stoddart said the organisation was keen to shake off the challenges of the past two years and forge on into a very bright New Year.

“During lockdown, we took the time to think about how we’d like the coming season to look and what we could do to help shore up our industry, which has taken a major battering during the pandemic,” he explained.

“We have programmed four outstanding productions under fabulous directors – including the long-awaited Jersey Boys, which will finally have its debut next October in the magnificent Civic Theatre.

“Unfortunately, it was suspended this year, due to the lockdown.

“We’ve already sold out more than a third of the three-week season for Jersey Boys.

“So, we’re off to a racing start.

“Aside from the four shows, we are also launching three major new industry initiatives, which we know will be valuable contributions to developing the industry both locally and nationally.

“Without giving too much away ahead of the launch, I can divulge one of these programs is an annual playwrights’ award.

“That will come with a $10,000 prize for the winner.

“Entries will be open for aspiring writers across the country and we can’t wait to see the interest this lucrative prize generates.”
