Looking for ways to socialise while also keeping active?
Newcastle run clubs are your new best friend… and there are a range of awesome options throughout the city.
They are all cost-free, community staged and welcome anyone and everyone – runners, joggers or walkers.
You’re bound to find one that will suit your schedule – offering you a fantastic opportunity to enhance your fitness, meet new people and boost your productivity.
1.Bar Beach Run Club
The Bar Beach run club is a great way to start your Friday and is sure to set you up perfectly for the weekend.
The run begins at 6.20am at the Bar Beach Bowlo and runners have the option of running to the Merewether baths and back (3km), or doing the same track plus an additional lap around Empire Park (5km).
While running, you’ll be able to enjoy the stunning sunrise views at Bar Beach, Dixon Park and Merewether Beach.
And, it wouldn’t be a run club without the coffee and swim afterwards.
The Van at Bar Beach often provides discounted coffee prices for all BBRC goers – a real treat to kick-start your Friday.

2. Never Run Club
Never Run Club is a two-deal special – hosting social run meets on both Wednesdays and Fridays.
Come join them on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm, starting at the Merewether baths; where you’ll tackle the hills of Dixon Park as well as enjoy the flat surfaces at Merewether and Bar.
Not a night runner? On Fridays, the club meets at 6.30am at Nobbys beach, where you can run and chat along the flat terrain of the Newcastle foreshore path. Both runs are a 15-minute out and back, so no pressure to meet a certain distance.

3. Newy Parkrun and Blackbutt Parkrun
Around the world, runners, walkers and volunteers meet at 8am every Saturday to complete a 5km Parkrun and Newcastle is home to two options.
In downtown Newcastle, the community event is hosted every Saturday at 1 Arnold Street Carrington, where runners will embark on a cruisy 5km track surrounding Throsby Creek.
For those closer to New Lambton, there is a hilly version at Blackbutt reserve.
The only difference to usual run clubs is that all runners are required to register the first time they participate – which will give you access to your place, time and personal bests.

4. Newy Fried Chicken Run Club
Looking for a run club to “spice” up your work-week routine?
Well, Newy Fried Chicken, one of Newcastle’s best fried chicken joints hosts a weekly run club.
Staged every Tuesday at 5.30pm, runners meet at NFC’s restaurant at 127-129 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow.
You can complete a 3km or 5km track, finishing back at the restaurant, where all runners can enjoy a $15 sando and fries special.

5. Not Another Run Club
Not Another Run Club is perfect for anyone craving some weekend productivity.
Conducted every Sunday at 6.30am, runners meet at House of Roast on Darby Street to complete a 15-minute out-and-back run.
Afterwards, runners usually enjoy a House of Roast coffee to complement their post-run high.

6. Kweens Run Club
For all the early-early birds of Newcastle, Kweens Run Club is the organisation for you.
On every second Wednesday at 6am, runners meet at The Kiosk at Newcastle Beach.
From here, they’ll complete a 5km track from Newcastle Beach to the Nobby’s Beach breakwall and back.
Why not treat yourself after your hard efforts?
Runners usually sit and chat over a fresh coffee from The Kiosk afterwards – the perfect social opportunity to start-up your Wednesday.
