Following the euphoria of its recent grand final, the local roller derby season is set to finish on a high note this weekend.
Newcastle Roller Derby League (NRDL) and Newcastle Junior Roller Derby (NJRD) will join forces for the ultimate event in 2022 at the Newcastle Showgrounds Exhibition Centre, Broadmeadow, on Saturday 26 November.
Doors open from 4.30pm with the young guns starting at 5pm and the experienced campaigners hitting the rink at 7pm.
The occasion will feature the junior skaters demonstrating their impressive talents in an opening contest before the senior league stars take on a team made up of friends from the South Side Derby Dolls and Central Coast Roller Derby United.
“Our end of the year match is all about having a fun time,” said NRDL president Zoe Llewellyn, also known as Moxie Monoxide.
“We’re celebrating the completion of a very successful home team season.
“And, it’s a great opportunity for our new players to debut in a low-pressure environment.”
Newcastle outfit Bogey Rollers claimed a victory in last month’s decider, accounting for the Harbour Hellcats.
“It was an epic conclusion to the 2022 competitive season,” Llewellyn said.
“So, we are looking forward to something different this weekend.
“But, we’re also delighted to showcase junior roller derby as these kids are the future of our
Sport.”
Newcastle Junior Roller Derby accepts skaters and want-to-be skaters of all genders between the ages of seven and 17.
