A Newcastle radio boss has been stood down after allegedly groping one of his station’s employees at a prestigious national event last week.
It’s understood Super Radio Network 2HD NEWFM general manager Guy Ashford acted inappropriately towards Cheralyn Darcey at the Australian Audio Awards at Carriageworks Sydney on Thursday 28 May.
The gala ceremony recognises excellence across the country’s radio and podcasting industries, celebrating the best audio content, talent and production.

Presenter Ms Darcey, who hosts The Nightline on 2HD from 8pm to midnight, was named Best Newcomer on Air – Medium.
But, after running up onto the stage, it’s claimed Mr Ashford grabbed her behind during a congratulatory embrace.
The incident was apparently filmed by several people in the audience, with a number of them complaining about his behaviour.
As a result, Super Radio Network CEO Graham Mott confirmed at the weekend Mr Ashford had been suspended until further notice.
He personally apologised to Ms Darcey and her husband, who was at the awards, too.
An investigation is now underway.
Mr Ashford was an announcer in the 1980s and 1990s across various stations.
He then spent time as an account manager for Central Coast Radio.
From 2008 to 2015, he was general manager of 2HD and NEWFM, before returning in 2021.
