Newcastle police seek information following break and enter

A man has been charged after a car was allegedly stolen following a break and enter in the Newcastle area.

About 7am on Monday 13 September, police were called to a business at Chatham Road, Hamilton North.

Initial inquiries indicate a 2021 BMW X1 was stolen from the location and two men fled in the vehicle, and a woman ran away on foot.

The business also sustained extensive damage and a number of sets of keys were allegedly stolen.

Police were contacted by a witness and an investigation by officers attached to Newcastle City Police District started.

The stolen car was sighted at various locations in the area and a pursuit was initiated throughout Lake Macquarie and Newcastle police districts.

The vehicle was later located unattended in Fraser Street, Jesmond, and seized.

Following inquiries, a 40-year-old man was arrested on Blue Gum Road about 11am and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, break and enter house, enter enclosed land, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and drive motor vehicle during disqualification.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 14 September.

Investigations are continuing to locate the other man and woman.
