Newcastle Mile guarantees Max-imum fun

SHARE

Rising country music star Max Jackson is comfortable being front and centre on the stage.

And, it was no different at the Newcastle Harness Racing Club on Monday evening when the Carrington-based singer/songwriter stepped up to help the organisation with its barrier draw for the prestigious AVE Technologies Newcastle Mile, which will take place at Newcastle Paceway on Friday 17 February.

With $100,000 prizemoney and automatic qualification into the $1 million Miracle Mile at Club Menangle on Saturday 4 March on offer, the local premier race has attracted a quality field of in-form pacers from across the nation.

As eager trainers looked on, the songstress drew barriers one and two for the Stephen Telfer duo of B D Joe, to be ridden by Tim Williams, and Alta Wiseguy (Blake Fitzpatrick).

But, unfortunately, Emma Stewart’s defending champion Mach Dan (Mark Pitt) was relegated to the furthest spot out wide (10).

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Jackson, who won the Toyota StarMaker crown at Tamworth in 2022.

“The Newcastle Mile is a fitting way to wrap up the club’s FebFest Summer Racing Carnival.

“It will be so much fun.

“Plus, my husband is in The Viper Creek Band, who’s also playing a free outdoor concert on the night.

“I can’t wait.”

Jackson, who is set to entertain the crowd at the After Party, admitted she was a fan of the trots.

“I performed at the TAB Regional Championships here last year,” she told the Newcastle Weekly.

“So, I was excited to be asked back for this occasion.

“My dad loved harness and thoroughbred racing.

“He owned a few horses, too.

“So, I’ve grown up with it in my family.”

Jackson’s appearance at the Newcastle Harness Racing Club will continue her current busy schedule.

“I’ve just returned from Tamworth, which was great,” she said.

“However, I’ve got a big year ahead with new music and more concerts on the way.”
