Newcastle Knights Dance Squad hosting open tryouts for 2023

They are the bright, energetic and highly-entertaining component of the Newcastle Knights.

And, now, Hunter residents have the opportunity to put their best foot forward by joining the NRL club’s prestigious Dance Squad.

Director Alex Tsambos is conducting tryouts for the elite outfit at McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday 13 December from 6pm.

The good news: it’s open to anyone, male or female, who boasts dance experience.

“We host this event annually,” she said.

“What we look for though is not only someone who has dance ability but also who is confident, enthusiastic, committed and passionate to be a part of our dynamic team.

“In other words, we want an all-rounder.

“As long as they have dance experience, we encourage everyone to come and try out.”

Tsambos said the role was more than just waving pom poms in front of the fans.

“Being a member of the Dance Squad entails weekly training sessions and pre-game and half-time entertainment for all Knights’ home fixtures,” she told the Newcastle Weekly.

“As well, we have various community events throughout the season, which we attend, along with charity appearances and cheer clinics.

“We are official club ambassadors.

“So, remaining on brand with our professionalism is what we strive to achieve.

“But, it’s also a great entry level for anyone looking to further their dance career.

“Most importantly, overall, it’s extremely fun.

“So many of our squad members have formed lifelong friendships and created memories to last a lifetime.”

The Knights, still riding high after the success of the club’s premiership-winning NRLW side, are expected to climb the NRL ladder in 2023, following some astute purchases by coach Adam O’Brien, including Adam Elliott (Canberra Raiders), Jack Hetherington (Canterbury Bulldogs), Greg Marzhew (Gold Coast Titans) and Jackson Hastings (Wests Tigers).

Newcastle kicks off its season against the New Zealand Warriors on 3 March.
