All the glitz and glamour that goes with horse racing will be on show at the Newcastle Jockey Club’s (NJC) biggest meeting of the year this weekend.
And, don’t forget the finely-tuned thoroughbreds either.
If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, legendary Novocastrian band The Screaming Jets will make sure the event’s even Better with a special performance afterwards.

With the NJC gearing up for The Hunter on Saturday 16 November, the organisation is already reporting more than a 30% uplift on ticket sales than the previous year.
CEO Duane Dowell said it augured well for another successful race day.
“It appears the growth in the event is continuing its upward spiral,” he stated.
“Newcastle, and the people of the region, has really got behind the concept.
“The Hunter meeting puts us in the national spotlight for events, too, with our own $1 million race headlining a great affair of racing, fashion and fun.
“To have Dave Gleeson and The Screaming Jets, a local iconic group, performing in the afternoon provides an amazing finale.
“All up, it promises to be an unforgettable experience for race-goers.”
With the expected increase in crowd numbers, an extra general admission (GA) precinct has been created with a big screen, pop-up bars and food stalls.
While hospitality packages sold out weeks ago, there are still GA tickets available on the club’s website at newcastleracecourse.com.au
Meanwhile, in partnership with MyRacehorse, Newcastle Racecourse is providing people with an opportunity to play an even greater part of the action by becoming owners in Newcastle’s own racehorse, Newy.
Locally-trained by 18-time Group 1 winning mentor Kris Lees, the two-year-old colt is born out of Knit ‘N’ Purl and by the stallion Flying Artie, who has also sired multiple stakes champion Artorius and is a half-brother to stable star Brudenell.
Novocastrians can get on board and snap up the chance to own a piece of Newy for just $89 via the MyRacehorse app and website.
“Those who choose to do so will not only receive a portion of the prizemoney in their MyRacehorse wallet, they’ll also go into a ballot to receive tickets and the opportunity to get right in the thick of the action in the mounting yard on a race day,” Dowell said.
“There will be additional owner’s events, training reports and Newy video updates with exclusive insights and content from Kris Lee’s Racing.
“Imagine the crowd chanting Newy’s name as he crosses the finish line [here].
“For anyone who has considered owning a share in a racehorse, this is a great entry level option.”
Newy will likely trial at Newcastle Racecourse in January.
