Newcastle Jockey Club buoyed by new deal ahead of race day

The Newcastle Jockey Club (NJC) will head into this weekend’s meeting buoyed by a new partnership deal with Horsepower Feeds and Supplements.

The agreement also includes naming rights to the Group 3 Newmarket Handicap next month.

It comes as the organisation prepares to host the Post-Christmas Party Race Day with Tozer Air at its Broadmeadow circuit on Saturday 5 February.

NJC CEO Duane Dowell said he was keen to witness some of the best gallopers in the region in action.

“It’s our second Saturday race day of 2022,” he explained.

“Following COVID-19 restrictions imposed throughout December, which rubbed out crowds, Tozer Air and Electrical transferred their sponsorship to this weekend.

“The theming provides an opportunity for businesses to return to the track for a post-Christmas party gathering in a COVID-safe environment.

“Everyone has endured a lot over the festive/New Year period.

“So, we are starting to see people coming back to the races to enjoy a great social day out again.”

The meeting kicks off from 1.20pm with the Class 1 and Maiden Plate.

“Patrons are in for an exciting day of racing,” Dowell said.

“The final race on the program will feature some horses having their last lead-up runs before contesting the Championship Qualifiers beginning in March.”

Newcastle Jockey Club will stage three additional meetings this month as well, with the Prosperity Advisers Group Race Day on 12 February, a mid-week Newcastle Race Day on 24 February and the Masters Builders Association Race Day on 26 February.

Dowell added he was thrilled to have Horsepower Feeds and Supplements on board, too.

“I have known Greg Murphy and the team for several years and I’m delighted we are working together at the NJC,” he said.

“Horsepower is a prominent supplier of horse feeds and supplements to the racing industry and are very big supporters of race clubs through sponsorship.

“It was terrific to be able to offer Greg and his team the opportunity to connect their brand to one of NJC’s most significant races here in Newcastle – The Group 3 Newmarket on Friday 4 March, which has produced many top line performers over the years including Happy Clapper, Soho Flyer, Patezza, Platinum Scissors, Special Reward and 2021 winner Gem Song.”

Murphy, the national sales manager, said he was very excited to be partnering with the Newcastle Jockey Club.

“NJC boasts a rich history and an exciting future, which Horsepower is elated to be part of,” he stated.

The Group 3 Horsepower Newcastle Newmarket is expected to again attract a classy field of horses.

Newcastle Racecourse will also celebrate International Women’s Day in the Trackside Marquee on 4 March, with tickets now available online IWD Marquee Event #breakthebias
