Local live music venue King Street will put its money where its mouth is by supporting a Newcastle domestic violence charity.
It comes after the popular clubbing and gig spot unveiled its Applause For A Cause initiative on Thursday 2 October.
During the month, $1 from every ticket sold at the venue is going to Jenny’s Place, an organisation which has been assisting local women and children in crisis since 1977.
Punters who attend each show in October will also have the opportunity to donate separately, though a variety of in-house campaigns.
King Street’s Angus Harper said they were committed to helping the city and its people.
“There is a rich culture in Newcastle of supporting one another, especially those in need,” he explained.
“This is our way of giving back to the community that has backed us and live music for so long.
“In October, buying a ticket to a show will not only support the artists, it will also support Jenny’s Place thanks to Applause For A Cause.”
The charity provides direct assistance for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, or homelessness.
They host several refuges, support programs and emergency accommodation centres, to provide a crucial resource and sanctuary for those in need.
Communications and engagement specialist Nicole Morwitch said Jenny’s Place was honoured to be the first charity partner for Applause For A Cause.
“This kind of community-led support is so important to sustaining our service delivery, allowing us to provide critical trauma-informed care to women and children impacted by domestic and family violence and homelessness,” she stated.
“Last year our service helped 1,211 women and 526 children through our Domestic Violence Resource Centre, our homelessness outreach program and our crisis refuges.
“We simply couldn’t provide this extensive care without the incredibly generous support of the Newcastle community.
“So, to all those coordinating the Applause For A Cause campaign and to every person in our community buying a ticket this month, please know that your help is genuinely life-changing.
“We are so very grateful for your support.”
