An e-motorbike rider booked a date with court for traffic offences at the weekend, despite receiving a warning earlier on the same day.
Operation Shore Safe police were patrolling Newcastle’s Wharf Road about 3.30pm on Sunday 9 November, when they stopped and spoke with the man.
It’s believed they took steps to educate him about the legalities of his bike, before releasing him with a caution.
But, he opted to push his luck instead.
Later that afternoon, the officers found themselves on Cowper Street, Carrington, when they saw the male allegedly riding the e-motorbike again.
This time, he underwent a preliminary roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.
He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
Following a secondary analysis, he blew an alleged reading of 0.178.
Further inquiries revealed the 35-year-old did not hold a licence for the class of vehicle he was riding.
He was charged with drive with high-range PCA; never licensed person drive vehicle on road; use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road; use uninsured motor vehicle on road; and rider without helmet ride with 1 passenger without helmet.
After being issued a Court Attendance Notice (CAN), he appear before Newcastle Local Court next month.
