Chief executive officer Peter Parr believes a new alliance with Mid-North Coast Rugby League (MNCRL) will bear fruit for the Newcastle Knights long-term.
The two organisations formalised a comprehensive three-year partnership agreement at the weekend, designed to strengthen the sport’s advancement across the Group 2 and Group 3 competitions.
It’s understood the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes a development-first framework, including coach education, volunteer capabilities and creating equitable pathways for both male and female players from the region.
“We’re thrilled to join forces with MNCRL,” Parr said.
“There is plenty of talent on the Mid-North Coast, particularly in the women’s space.
“But, this collaboration also aligns with our strategic pledge of becoming a leading development club, by creating clear pathways to become a Knight.”
Newcastle’s director of football Chris James admitted the partnership represented a consistent commitment to regional rugby league growth.
“This isn’t about branding or symbolic gestures,” he said.
“It is about having a genuine presence in the community and investing in the people who make rugby league strong at the grassroots level.
“We’re committed to dependable connections for both genders on coach education and player development, creating transparent pathways for talented young people to keep them connected to their local clubs and communities.
“The Mid-North Coast has produced outstanding rugby league talent for generations.
“This partnership is about providing every player, coach, referee and volunteer the support and opportunities they deserve, regardless of where they live.”
MNCRL chairman Warren Blissett welcomed the affiliation as a significant obligation to regional league.
“The agreement represents a genuine investment in our people and our competitions,” he said.
“What stands out is the focus on development across the entire system, including coaches, trainers, referees and administrators, not just elite players.
“The commitment to have Knights staff regularly in our region, delivering face-to-face education and support, is exactly what our volunteers and young people need.
“We’ve worked hard to ensure this partnership protects regional equity and creates real opportunities for our communities.
“The Knights have listened, and together we’ve built something that will strengthen rugby league right across the Mid-North Coast.”
