New look Maitland Taste set to launch next month

Maitland Taste is being ‘Deconstructed’, creatively pulled apart and served up with an extended footprint throughout Central Maitland from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 May.

And, for the first time, it will trade until 10pm.

Foodies can explore the city to find pop up eateries, each with their own distinct taste.

Operating from 5pm to 10pm Friday, 11am to 10pm Saturday and 11am to 3pm Sunday, the church grounds of St John’s Parish in Cathedral Street will be transformed into The Meating Place, the perfect place for BBQ lovers, with the crews from Smokin Hot n Saucy and Foghorn Brewery teaming up to cook it low and slow.

From 5pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday night, Turner Rest Park will play host to Mezze Beats, which will see stalls, including Gnocked Up, serving Mediterranean delights accompanied by Euro sounds from DJ Perry Carter.

For those who seek out Coffin Lane, you’ll find an exclusive Laneway Bar featuring locally made Gin from The Farmers Wife Distillery and tasty treats from Taco Locato.

“The events industry has been hit hard with COVID-19, and it’s great to see events like Taste return to Central Maitland to support local businesses,” said Robert Thraves, Texas BBQ Master from Smokin Hot n Saucy’.

Foghorn Brewery chief brewer Shawn Sherlock added: “Maitland has a great reputation for putting on amazing community events, and we’re excited to be featuring at The Meating Place for Maitland Taste Deconstructed.”

Continuing from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, the event’s day program at The Levee will feature some of the region’s best gourmet food and artisan market stalls, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, live music, kids activities and gardening demonstrations by Anambah locals, Purple Pear Farm.

From 5pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday night, The Levee will come to life with vibrant, interactive lighting sculptures throughout The Levee, by Sydney-based creatives Amigo Amigo and Illuminart.

Kids can also immerse themselves in the illuminated Butterfly Dome by Newcastle sensory artist and designer Bliss Cavanagh.

Maitland Taste Deconstructed is a free event that will bring the community together in a COVIDSafe way to celebrate the great food, wine and produce from Maitland and the Hunter Region.

A comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Plan will be in place for all events and activities.

Council will monitor and adhere to the advice from the Federal and State Governments, including any variation or modification of the public health orders.
